A THUG who left his partner with an open wound after headbutting her has been hauled back to court.

David Chadwick was spared jail back in January last year, despite his actions following a binge which saw him drink 20 cans of lager.

As part of his sentence, he was also handed a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the victim for the next two years.

But the 34-year-old has now been locked up for making contact with the woman in disregard of the order handed down by the court.

Chadwick was charged with breaching his restraining order and breaching his suspended sentence, and he appeared to be sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, May 18.

The court heard how Chadwick was handed the suspended sentence and restraining order after his convictions on a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

This was committed on December 4, 2021, at around 8.30pm after the pair had been drinking, with the defendant consuming ‘some 20 cans of lager’.

While the victim went to the toilet to be ill, the defendant fell asleep on the couch.

An argument broke out and Chadwick then headbutted her hard to the forehead, causing an open wound, as well as swelling and bleeding.

On a previous occasion, the court was told that the defendant has a ‘tendency to be volatile’ and had two previous convictions for 10 offences.

An impact statement read out in court revealed that the victim was ‘very worried about him being released from prison’, with his behaviour becoming more aggressive due to his excessive drinking.

The judge on the last occasion stated that it was clear that Chadwick ‘clearly has a worrying pattern of violence against partners’.

But she decided against jailing him immediately, sentencing him to six months in prison suspended for 18 months, as well as unpaid work and a curfew on electronic tag.

Recorder Kate Cornell added: “You are fortunate not to receive an immediate custody sentence today. Make use of this opportunity to stop drinking and stop offending.”

However Chadwick, of Grasmere Avenue in Orford, failed to heed the warning.

During a two-week period in October, he was in contact with the woman in disregard to the restraining order.

Judge Stuart Driver, sentencing for these latest offences, described the breaches as being ‘deliberate and persistent’ and jailed Chadwick for seven months.
