A PUBLIC nuisance previously branded as a ‘drain on police resources’ has been put behand bars once again.

Dancing Chris is no stranger to appearing in court or being sent to custody, having amassed a lengthy list of convictions.

The 67-year-old, whose full name is Christopher Berry, is the subject of a criminal behaviour order which aims to tackle the most serious and persistent offenders.

But he was hauled back before Crewe Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, May 20 after being charged with breach of a criminal behaviour order and assault by beating of an emergency worker.

Joanne Moore, representing the Crown Prosecution Service, informed the court how the offences were committed on May 18.

A number of conditions are attached to Berry’s criminal behaviour order, including a ban from Warrington town centre and a prohibition against ‘causing harassment, alarm and distress’.

He breached the latter in Warrington that day, while he also assaulted a police officer doing his public duty by beating him.

The court was also informed of Berry’s horrendous criminal record, with magistrates previously branding him as having a ‘wilful and persistent failure to comply’ with his court order.

For these latest offences, magistrates said that they would take the defendant’s guilty pleas into account.

However, they remarked that immediate custody was the only appropriate course of action due to his ‘substantial previous convictions of a similar nature’.

Berry, of Huntley Street in Sankey Bridges, was sentenced to six months in prison.

He was also ordered to pay compensation to the police officer he assaulted of £100 and costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £120.
