A MOTORIST has been banned from drinking alcohol after being caught drink-driving in the town.

Carl Davies was more than four times the legal drink-drive limit when he got behind the wheel of his car.

The 35-year-old was caught however and charged with drink driving, and he was sentenced at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, May 3.

Michael O’Kane, representing the prosecution, told the court how the offence was committed on March 24.

Davies was driving a black Hinda Civic on Harrier Road in Padgate, with a roadside breath test producing a reading of 148 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of his breath.

This is more than four times the legal limit of 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath.

Before sentencing, magistrates said that while the defendant’s guilty plea would be taken into account, the offence was so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified.

This was due to the high level of alcohol reading he produced when tested.

However, the concluded that they could suspend the custodial sentence after judging that the defendant has a ‘realistic prospect of rehabilitation’.

Davies, of Pasture Lane in Longbarn, was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months.

He was also ordered to complete an alcohol abstinence and monitoring requirement ensuring he refrains from consuming any alcohol for 120 days.

In addition, magistrates ordered that he abide by an electronically monitored curfew for the same length of time, as well as pay court costs of £120 and a victim surcharge of £154.
