A SHOCKING image has been posted online of bins that were set alight on a skate park in Culcheth.
The skate park, off Shaw Street, has been the target of suspected arson as a bin was set on fire underneath a shopping trolley.
As per a report posted online, a blue bin was set alight on the recreational ground off Shaw Street.
One member of a litter-picking team that helps to maintain the recreational ground said that continued vandalism at the site is 'verging on criminal.'
The litter-picker said: "The problem gets worse and worse.
"One morning last weekend we cleared broken glass from at least two dozen bottles, six large gas canisters and loads of general litter, three bin bags full just from the skate park.
"They had also taken the tops of the bins and thrown them over the fence onto the road."
The comment continues: "These kids must be going home in some states after the amount of alcohol and gas that they’ve drank and inhaled. Don’t the parents notice?
"I know that teenagers need somewhere to go and hang out but the damage done and disregard for others is now verging on criminal.
"We’ve told all the authorities we can think of but nothing seems to be getting done."
The member of the litter group concluded: "Please check what your kids are doing in the evenings, they are drinking huge amounts of alcohol and inhaling gas from industrial-sized canisters which can do terrible damage to their health.
"Please also make your concerns known to the council and the police if necessary, we feel as if we’re fighting a losing battle."
