MAJOR delays are to be expected travelling northbound on the M6 this morning.
A collision has been reported between Winwick and Haydock, causing severe disruption.
The affected stretch of the motorway is between Junction 22 (Winwick) and Junction 23 (Haydock).
All traffic heading northbound on this stretch was temporarily held by highways officers.
As per National Highways, there are delays expected in the region of 30 minutes over three miles of congestion.
National Highways says: "The M6 northbound between J22 (Winwick) and J23 (Haydock), traffic has been temporarily STOPPED due to a collision.
"There is currently approximately three miles congestion on approach, causing delays of 30 minutes above usual journey times.
"We will keep you updated."
The service then reported that all lanes had reopened, but motorists should expect delays, saying: "Recovery complete and all lanes reopened on the M6 northbound between J22 (Winwick) and J23 (Haydock) following the earlier collision.
"Delays on approach remain, please allow extra journey time if travelling in the area."
