ONE of the most popular watering holes in Stockton Heath could be set for an outdoor revamp if plans are approved.
The plans have been submitted regarding the Red Lion to Warrington Borough Council's planning department, and the application was validated on Wednesday, May 3.
Included in the plans are like-for-like updates within the premises of the pub, as well as an entirely new feature.
Plans submitted via the council's online planning portal show that the owners of the pub - which is part of the Thwaites brand - are hoping to erect a large tent at the rear of the building which can be used for events.
The tent, or 'tipi,' would be erected behind the main section of the pub, which was ranked as a Grade II listed building in 1983.
According to the planning application, the Red Lion building dates back to the 1800s, which is why the partial refurbishment includes like-for-like replacements, so as to not materially change the exterior of the pub.
Proposals contain a number of adjustments for the popular pub, including:
- New external seating booth against outbuilding
- Removal of existing garden path and replacement with landscaped borders
- Installation of bound gravel areas under free-standing shelters
- Installation of tipi to central area
- Extend paved area from rear of outbuildings
As per the planning application: "The property currently is trading well but, in an effort, to secure the commercial future of the business, the applicant is looking to make the property more attractive to its existing and potential clientele whilst promoting its external space for a wider range of activities.
"At the same time, the applicant recognises that some elements of the building are a little tired and has therefore proposed a package of external fabric repairs."
It is anticipated that, if approved, the tipi would be used for a wide range of events that could be held at the Red Lion.
This planning application is under consideration by planning officers at Warrington Borough Council, with a decision due by Wednesday, June 28.
