A STREET in Winwick had the largest number of crimes reported in the latest month, data shows.

New information released by the Home Office-run site Police.uk shows that in the latest available month - March 2023 - one street in Winwick saw the largest number of crimes reported for the month.

Hollins Lane in Winwick had the most crimes reported in March this year, according to the data from Cheshire Constabulary.

The data released by the Home Office's Police.uk website shows the number of reported crimes - this may differ from actual crimes; some crimes may go reported more than once, while others may not.

Speaking to the Warrington Guardian, chief inspector Neil Drum of Warrington Local Policing Unit, said: "Firstly, it’s important to note that the data on the Police.uk website doesn’t accurately show on which streets incidents actually occurred.

"Instead, the system uses snap points to highlight the crime figures for different areas of the town."

Hollins Lane saw 13 crimes reported in March, ranging from criminal damage and arson to drug offences, shoplifting, and five reports of violent and sexual offences.

In March there were 1,638 crimes reported for the month, which equates to 7.8 crimes for every 1,000 people in the town.

March's total was higher than every month of 2023 so far, as well as higher than November and December 2022 - making it the town's worst month since last October.

This year's count was also worse than March 2022, which saw 1,589 reports.

Cheshire Constabulary as a whole marked a 1.7 per cent decrease in reported crimes in the 12 months to December 2022.

Violent and sexual offences made up the largest proportion of all reported crimes in Warrington in the latest month, with 705 reports - up from 617 in February, marking an increase of 14 per cent in one month.

In terms of the outcomes of reported crimes, 715 were under investigation in March, with 558 reports not allowing for further action.

Reasons given for no further action include: "Formal action is not in the public interest," "investigation complete; no suspect identified," and "unable to prosecute suspect."
