A GYM in Woolston is primed to launch a new initiative that will provide classes aimed at those who have survived a stroke.

The classes will also be ideal for those living with other neurological conditions, too.

This initiative, known as 'Phoenix,' is being coordinated by CrossFit Warrington, which can be found off Kingsland Grange, in Woolston.

CrossFit Warrington will be running two classes per week for eight weeks, which will serve as an initial trial run for the programme.

The owners of the gym, Sarah Lunn and Sian Edwards, say they believe this is the first class of its kind in Warrington, and believe that offering exercise for all is incredibly valuable.

They said: "The classes will be charged at £8 per class, our long-term hope is secure funding to make these classes available to everyone and remove financial considerations.

"We’re really excited about this, we’ve got a lot of local support, there is nothing currently like this in Warrington.

"The first eight weeks are a ’test’ - we’ll gather information and then see if we can grow it from there."

The pair added: "Phoenix is a CrossFit class for people who have had a stroke or live with a neurological or long-term health condition.

"Our classes are physiotherapist-led, so we have expertise and qualifications which makes it safe to exercise and cater to all abilities and fitness levels."

The classes will begin on Monday, May 15, and will run for eight weeks, and will run at 11am on a Monday and a Wednesday.

Booking for the classes is required, and that can be done using the following link: https://crossfitwarrington.wodify.com/OnlineSalesPortal/Home.aspx or by calling 07360545834.

Sarah and Sian explained their motivations for organising the classes:

"Everybody should enjoy the many benefits of exercise.

"Everybody should have the opportunity to improve their physical function and independence.

"Everybody should have access to social participation and have mental well-being.

"We know that recovery takes place over many years following a stroke and that long-term exercise brings huge benefits to those with neurological conditions."
