A PRIMARY school which opened its doors in the 1800s, celebrated its 150th anniversary by planting a ‘beautiful’ tree to commemorate the occasion.
The former head teacher at Winwick CE Primary School, Sue Dymond, returned for the touching ceremony, to help pupils plant the tree in the grounds of St Oswald’s Church.
Pupils of the school, staff, governors and church officials were all in attendance on the day.
As well as recognising the momentous milestone, the tree planting was also to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The children from the school’s eco group researched a suitable tree and worked with members of the church PCC and the school governors to arrange the location in the church garden.
Sue Dymond, head teacher of Winwick Primary for six years, helped plant the tree in her final week as head teacher at the school before she moved on to a new position with HMI for schools.
The school’s eco-committee said: "It will serve as a reminder for pupils and the community to enjoy and we are very pleased that Mrs Dymond was able to plant this on the school’s behalf in her final week as our head teacher ".
