We thought we would run through some of the most popular suggestions to get that nostalgia going again.
Mississippi Showboat
Perhaps the most popular suggestion, Showboat was well-loved by residents in the 80s and 90s.
Lynne Bannister said: “I've been to Mississippi Showboat it was great. A gang of us went from work."
Zoe Brown Smith added: “Paid to get in and that included drinks, great times.”
The Carlton
For live bands and music, the Carlton in Sankey Street was always a popular choice.
Clive Little said: “The Carlton on a Friday night great rock music and great people.”
Joni Leigh added: “Loved the Carlton in the 60's - soul and Motown music.”
The Lion
Upstairs on a Friday night in The Lion was popular.
And it was a historic venue that welcomed the likes of David Bowie, Paul Simon and Elton John over the years before its closure in 2001.
The World
The Church Street club was also mentioned in many residents’ lists as a great night out and there was love for the indie night on a Friday.
Vicky Higgins said: “I absolutely loved the world only went once but it was an amazing night."
Mr Smiths
Of course, Mr Smiths cropped up where Thursday nights out were very popular.
Lisa Appleton said: “Amazing nightclub. One of my first jobs as a glass collector at 18 years old and my second home lol.
“I loved it, it was the good old days and was a big nightclub with a fab bistro, dancers and dance floors, DJs and the rocket landing on the dance floor. There was great music and vibes.”
Emma Green said she went to Smiths, and if you got knocked back she chose The World.
Other suggestions by readers included Peppermint Gardens, Legends, Secrets, Chaplins and Tracey’s.
