A NUCLEAR engineering lab in the heart of Birchwood has raised more than £1,400 as part of this year's Comic Relief appeal.
MoltexFLEX, based in Rutherford House on Birchwood Park, has raised an outstanding amount of money in this year's appeal, through a number of different fundraisers.
On Wednesday evening, March 15, employees of Moltex donated a number of items for a charity auction that took place, with prizes being bid for throughout the event.
Items donated included fossils, a casino night experience, home-baked goodies, bottles of ‘headache-free’ wine, offers to clean desks or act as a taxi service, and even a two-night stay in a bed and breakfast in Scotland.
The biggest amount raised was for a breakdancing lesson from MoltexFLEX’s reactor physicist Eduardo Cuoc – who demonstrated his skills in person.
This prize included a commitment from Eduardo to perform 25 ‘windmills’ at the next Moltex social event, the auctioned lesson raised £204.
Moltex development chemist Joe Vickers was the auctioneer – donning a tweed jacket and red trousers to look the part; metallurgist Ciara Fox took phone bids from employees who couldn’t be there in person.
CEO of the firm, David Landon, told the Warrington Guardian: "The mission of Comic Relief chimes well with that of MoltexFLEX, as we’re striving to end energy poverty and aid development around the world.
"It goes to show how passionate our team members are about this mission that they devote their free time and energy towards similar good causes too."
