A NOVEL delving into the life of iconic fashion designer Ossie Clark will be released next week.
Warrington-born author, Tommy Kennedy, originally from Great Sankey, was inspired by the creator after witnessing a talk he did at his former high school, Beamont Technical, where the writer then attended as a young pupil.
The story follows the ‘extraordinary’ life of Ossie Clark and his ‘rise from anonymity to the pinnacle of the fashion world’. It is titled ‘Ossie Clark: The Highs and Lows of a Legendary Fashion Designer’.
It will be released on March 15 and will transport readers into the ‘swinging sixties’ where Ossie’s journey first began in the ‘bustling streets’ of the capital.
The biography broaches both the pinnacles of the fashion designers’ career, of which have left a stamp on the industry to this day, as well as the darker periods of his life, all leading up to his tragic murder in 1996.
Renowned for his vintage prints which resembles the golden era of the 60’s, Clark grew from humble beginnings, born into a working-class family and growing up in Warrington.
Before reaching his height of fame with many of his designs recognised across fashion capitals of the world, including New York and Paris.
Author, Tommy, 62, who is currently a night student studying creative writing at the prestigious Birkbeck University in London, spoke of his anticipation for the books release.
He said: “I am excited for the upcoming release of the book.”
Speaking on how he idolised Clark back in his youth, he added: “He inspired me that there was more to life than just Warrington, there was other things going on out there.”
Having authored nine novels prior to this one, many based around Tommy’s life and his real-life experiences, he said his most recent work showcases his passion for ‘research and creativity’.
The novel begins with: “Step into the bustling streets of 1960s London, where the air is thick with creativity and rebellion.
“Feel the energy and excitement as young Raymond "Ossie" Clark arrives at the Royal College of Art, ready to unleash his unique vision on the world. His fingers itch with the desire to create, his mind racing with ideas that push the boundaries of fashion.”
You can purchase a copy of Ossie Clark: The Highs and Lows of a Legendary Fashion Designer from Waterstones next Wednesday, 15.
