A HUGE police presence was reported on one of the main routes through the town at rush hour yesterday afternoon, Wednesday.
Multiple police cars and a police van were spotted on Mersey Street shortly before 5pm.
Cheshire Police has confirmed that it attended after members of the public reported concerns for the welfare of a woman on nearby Academy Way.
However, she was arrested when police arrived on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in a public place, as well as of assaulting an emergency worker.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “At 4.53pm yesterday, Wednesday, March 1, police received a report of concern for welfare in Academy Way.
“Officers attended and located a woman in Mersey Street and arrested her on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and assaulting a police officer.”
