A WARRINGTON man was more than double the drink-drive limit when he flipped his car onto its side in a crash.

Peter Slattery was driving in Wilmslow at the time, and was breathalysed by police afterwards.

The 34-year-old was subsequently charged with drink driving, and he appeared to be sentenced at Crewe Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, February 23.

He was disqualified from getting back behind the wheel and ordered to complete unpaid work in and for the benefit of the community.

Leanne Gallagher, prosecuting, told the court how the offence was committed on Saturday, February 5.

Slattery was driving a black BMW on the A538 Altrincham Road in Wilmslow at around 11.30pm.

But he crashed his car, which ended up on its side spanning the pavement and road.

Police attended after being made aware of the crash, with the defendant producing a reading of 72 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of his breath.

This is more than double the legal limit of 35 micrograms. Thankfully, nobody else was involved in the collision.

Taking his guilty plea into account, magistrates sentenced Slattery, of St Georges Close in Appleton, to a 12-month community order.

He was also disqualified from driving for 20 months and told to complete 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days and 60 hours of unpaid work.

In addition, Slattery was told he must pay costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £120 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £114.
