THE first wave of community groups has been announced for Culcheth's Daten Sports Club.
This comes after the Daten announced its 'Community Connections' initiative.
The committee at the sports club have undertaken a major refurbishment of the club, hoping to restore the Daten to its former glory as a hub within the heart of the community.
This began with the construction works on the sports club, as well as changing the name of the club back to 'The Daten' - the club is now offering its large space to community groups in Culcheth.
One of the most successful groups to run from the Daten is the Ukrainian Family Hub, which has supported almost 200 Ukrainian refugees in Warrington since the invasion of Ukraine began one year ago.
Now, the Daten has announced the first four community groups that will be regularly using the club's space to run their unique services.
Every Monday, from 2pm until 4pm, there will be a jigsaw club taking place at the sports club.
There will be a reading group each month, which will be on the first Tuesday of each month, from 1-2.30pm.
The third group announced is a craft group which is set to take over the club's space on the third Tuesday of every month from 1pm until 3pm.
Finally, the 'Knit and Natter' group will be running from the Daten each Thursday for two hours, from 10am until 12pm
The Daten has stood in Culcheth since the 1940s, having first been built by the UK Atomic Energy Authority as a social club for its employees, before being sold to the community of Culcheth.
Part of this agreement included a covenant on the building that states it must always be used for the benefit of the community - something that the current committee at the Daten is emphasising.
Announcing the news on social media, the Daten said: "We are absolutely delighted to be able to share an update on our 'Community Connections' groups.
"We approached Culcheth Library to see if their groups would like a temporary home with us whilst the library undergoes renovation work.
"The answer was a resounding yes!"
