A WARRINGTON man has received an honour from the King at a ceremony held at Windsor Castle.
Tommy Spedding was awarded the honour - which stands for 'Officer of the Order of the British Empire' - at an investiture service, where he was presented with his OBE medal.
Recipients of honours from the Royal Family do not know which royal will present them with their honour until closer to the time of their investiture.
Tommy was named in the then-Queen's Honours List in 2022, for services to the UK's nuclear and transport industries.
For almost 42 years Tommy worked within the UK's nuclear sector, before retiring in 2022.
In the final 15 years of his career, Tommy worked as a transport manager at Nuclear Transport Solutions, wherein he helped to solidify his name within the industry.
Tommy was responsible for organising and coordinating complex nuclear shipments, ensuring that they were planned and delivered safely and securely.
He said: "Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be worthy of such an honour.
"This wouldn’t have been possible without the support and contribution of the rest of the NTS team, who have provided the foundation for me to be considered for the award."
Speaking at the time he was informed he had been named in the Honours List, Tommy said: "This obviously represents the pinnacle of my career and what an appropriate time to receive it, in my final year.
“Also, a massive thank you must go to my family, and in particular my wife, Diane, who has over the years had to make huge sacrifices to accommodate my many frequent and lengthy trips overseas on company business.”
During his career, Tommy played a crucial role in shipments of nuclear materials to the US from Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden and Japan, with the shipments from Japan attracting special praise from the US Government.
