A NEW planning application has been submitted to Warrington Borough Council regarding the construction of almost 100 homes in Croft.
The plot in question is off Deacons Close, in Croft, and is adjacent to Croft Primary School.
According to the developers, Bellway Homes, it is hoped that 98 new homes will be constructed.
These new-build houses will be a mixture of two, three, and four-bedroom houses, if plans are approved by planning bosses.
Of those 98 planned homes, at least 13 will be part of the 'affordable housing' scheme.
All of the homes will be two-storey, with some single-storey garages associated.
In terms of the reasoning for choosing this area in particular, the developers say: "The site is well connected to the local road network with access to the M6 and M62 within a short distance, connecting the site to Manchester and Liverpool City Centre.
"Warrington, and other local towns, provide leisure amenities such as parks, swimming pools and schools.
"Warrington has a character-rich and vibrant centre with a selection of shops and facilities including employment and business parks located to the south west of the centre."
This proposed development is not without its controversies, with objections being listed on the council's online planning portal from those in the neighbouring areas.
One reads: "Deacons Close is already a big development, we do not need another 98 houses!
"If each house has one or two vehicles, that is an extra 98-196 vehicles on Deacons Close. I live on Abbey Close and as you approach the junction with Deacons Close there are no white lines at the end of Deacons Close onto Abbey Close. Drivers often pull out of Deacons Close without stopping. I have had a few near misses with careless drivers pulling out onto Abbey Close from Deacons Close.
"Are the two primary schools in Croft going to be able to accommodate the children who will move into these houses?"
Another objection says: "Croft is a farming village and its roads/surfaces are only built to accommodate such.
"The nearest school to this development is already oversubscribed, with the only other school in Croft being a Catholic school.
"Increasing class sizes to accommodate this development will only have a detrimental impact on existing pupils."
The complaint continued: "Local doctors and dentists are all already full, as Croft does not have its own facilities of this nature.
"I cannot see that any development will benefit the village in any way."
This planning application is currently under consideration by planning officers at Warrington Borough Council, and a decision is due by Monday, May 22.
