THE funeral of a 37-year-old Orford dad who ‘lived and breathed’ for his wife and children is taking place next Wednesday.
Mike Leicester tragically died last month, leaving behind his two sons Riley and Alfie and his wife Amy.
The ‘gentle giant’ was widely known throughout Warrington. He played for Grappenhall Griffins at a young age before he progressed to Woolston Rovers where ‘he found his home’.
Even when he hung up his boots, Mike was still involved with the team behind the scenes as he sponsored Woolston Rovers.
After Mike’s sudden death, family and friends came together to fundraise for his funeral which is taking place on Wednesday, February 22.
His wife Amy told the Warrington Guardian how they want it to be the ‘biggest and best day’ for Mike.
Leaving Mike’s home address at 9.15am, the procession will take the route down Orford Road passed Mike’s favourite pub, The Irish Club, between 9.15am and 9.30am for those who want to wave him passed.
It will then head to Walton Crematorium before a wake is held back at The Irish Club on Orford Lane straight after.
Family flowers only have been requested and any donations will go to Amy, Riley and Alfie.
The family has also requested that no one is in black.
“This is a celebration of Mike’s life,” Amy said.
“We want everyone in rugby tops and colours – ideally Warrington or Woolston.”
Mike’s mum Lynn Leicester previously paid tribute to her son: “Everybody in Warrington knew about our gentle giant Leicester.
“He would stop at nothing to help anybody and everybody.
“He lived and breathed for his two boys Riley and Alfie and his beautiful wife Amy.
“His legacy will live on through each and every one of us.
"He will be very sadly missed, especially by his mum, his stepdad who he absolutely adored, his sister Claire, brother Thomas and his wife and gorgeous boys.”
