A WARRINGTON village has received a generous donation to support its monthly movie nights.
Movies at the Milner has been showing films once a month to members of the Moore community since 2010.
Films are shown on a projector, but organisers at the Milner Church Institute were recently advised that the costly bulb in the projector lamp could fail at any time without warning – meaning movie nights may be interrupted.
The film club successfully applied for Redrow’s Daresbury Community Fund - which shared £10,000 between groups, charities and schools in the surrounding area, linked to its latest development Daresbury Garden Village - and were given funds for a replacement bulb and filter for the projector lamp.
“Our film night provides an important focal point and opportunity to develop community cohesion. It’s a place to meet our neighbours and support local businesses,” said Helen Dearden, a volunteer at Movies at the Milner.
“Our biggest concern has been the projector lamp as we have been advised by the original supplier that the bulb could need replacing at any time. It could go, without warning, before, after or even during a performance.
“We are very grateful to Redrow for this funding, which now means we have the comfort of knowing that we can replace it quickly so that the community film night can continue uninterrupted.”
Sarah Weaver, marketing manager at Redrow NW, said: “Our community funds were set up to offer funding to groups providing a service to the community.
“We are so pleased to have been able to gift this money to the film club. When we heard how vital this piece of equipment was to the group, we knew we had to help.”
Movies at the Milner film nights are held on the first Friday of every month, entrance is £5 which includes post film tea and biscuits. For further information visit https://www.facebook.com/moviesatthemilner
