A LARGE police presence has been spotted at a park in Warrington as detectives probe the tragic death of a teenage girl.
Police and paramedics were called to Culcheth Linear Park at 3.13pm yesterday (February 11) after reports of a woman with serious injuries.
The woman, believed to be a teenager, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her next of kin have been informed, but her name will not be released until a formal identification has taken place.
A cordon is in place at entrances to the park as specialist officers from Cheshire Police try to understand what happened.
The car park remains closed.
A crime scene operation is taking place, but police do not believe there is a wider threat to anyone else.
Detective Chief Inspector, Adam Waller, said: “I understand the concerns that this incident is likely to cause, and I am aware that there are rumours circulating online – however, I would urge people not to speculate.
“We are following numerous lines of enquiry to establish what led to the victim’s death, and local residents will see an increased presence of police officers in the area while we investigate this incident.
“At this stage we do not believe there is a wider threat to anyone else however if you have concerns please do speak to a local officer.
“As part of our investigation, I am keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have witnessed the incident or seen anything unusual in Culcheth Linear Park at around 3pm.
“The same goes for anyone with any CCTV or dashcam footage which may aid our investigation.
“I urge anyone with any information – no matter how small – to get in touch.”
Warrington North MP, Charlotte Nichols, posted on Facebook: "I've spoken to the Warrington Police Borough Commander regarding the tragic death below.
"If you have any information, or were in the nearby area and have dashcam footage, please come forward even if you think it's nothing- let the police make that decision.
"My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased, and I will continue to liaise with and support our local police in any way I can in ascertaining all the facts of this case."
