WARRINGTON North MP Charlotte Nichols has praised the groundbreaking work being done in the nuclear sector in Birchwood.
The Labour MP made the comments in a press release sent to the Warrington Guardian.
Ms Nichols is the chair of the Nuclear All Party Parliamentary Group, and ran a skills and apprenticeship fair as part of 'Nuclear Week.'
The event was hosted by Ms Nichols, and saw apprentices from Warrington and across the UK attend.
Nuclear Week in Parliament promotes the opportunities that nuclear energy presents, bringing together key stakeholders and decision-makers to hold productive conversations that help to drive forward the UK's nuclear industry.
Warrington has a thriving nuclear sector, and it contributes vast amounts to the local economy.
The sector was recognised for offering hundreds of highly skilled jobs with recognisable names such as Rolls Royce and the National Nuclear Laboratory calling Birchwood Park home.
In years gone by, Warrington has also played host to the UK Atomic Energy Authority, with the UKAEA building the Daten Sports Club in Culcheth for its own employees.
The nuclear energy sector is anticipated to play a large role in the UK's net-zero ambitions.
Charlotte Nichols said: "The nuclear industry is incredibly important for Warrington North.
“We are at the centre of one of the UK's largest nuclear hubs, we should be proud of the important work done on our doorstep."
The Labour MP added: “Birchwood is home to some exciting companies, including Moltex Energy which I had the pleasure of visiting earlier this month.
“The forward thinking of companies like Moltex, Jacobs, Cavendish and Sellafield is driving innovation and encouraging more companies to join them in Warrington North.
“The sector is a key employer, supporting our town's economy and through clean energy is helping us to reach net zero.
“I’m looking forward to bringing a similar skills fair to Warrington in the future that showcases the incredible talent of our young people and opportunities available right here in our town."
