REPORTED crimes in Warrington fell over the Christmas period by more than 10 per cent, new data has revealed.
The statistics were released by Police.uk, and highlight the number of crimes reported to police in Warrington.
An important detail is that the dataset lists 'reported' crimes - crimes that went unreported, therefore, do not appear on the list.
In the same vein, some crimes may have been reported more than once, such as motoring offences.
Therefore, the data should be taken as an indicator only.
When looking at the data, all but three categories of crime fell between November and December 2022.
Overall, there were 1,283 crimes committed in Warrington in December, which amounts to roughly 41 reports per day - however, there were 1,440 reports in November, amounting to approximately 48 crimes committed per day.
The change between November and December marks a decrease of 10.9 per cent.
Although we are accustomed to seeing crime rates increase over the festive period, and this surprising data is a welcome change, it should be noted that not all aspects of reported crime fell in December.
As is the trend for that time of year, reported burglaries increased by 25 per cent in December, and 'other theft' also increased by around 16 per cent.
There was also an increase in the number of drug-related offences that took place, increasing by 25 per cent from 32 in November to 40 in December.
Cheshire Constabulary was vocal on social media about the various police operations taking place throughout Warrington in December, with a number of posts regarding plainclothes officers in areas such as the Golden Square Shopping Centre.
The police issued a warning to all homeowners, warning them about the dangers of the spates of burglaries expected at Christmastime.
At the time, Sgt. Mark Spaven said: "During this time of year we do see several burglaries and we are doing all we can to crack down on those intent on damaging our communities and bring them to justice.
"This is why you will see stepped-up patrols in your community and I would urge anyone who may have concerns to speak to an officer.
Sgt. Spaven added: "But while we do our part, I would urge residents to also do theirs by ensuring that their homes are secure.
"From checking that all windows and doors are locked, to looking out for neighbours."
Of the crimes committed in December, the vast majority remain under investigation (549 reports).
However, in 503 cases, it was determined that no further action can - or should - be taken; this includes outcome data listed as 'not in the public interest,' 'no suspect identified,' and 'unable to prosecute suspect.'
