THE resilience of an Appleton woman battling cancer has inspired her netball teammates to raise money for charity.
Sandymoor Swans have been raising money for a cancer support charity in honour of their teammate who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
The Runcorn group have been supporting Look Good Feel Better – a charity which runs confidence building workshops and classes for people with cancer.
The effort has been organised for Danielle Giovedi, who had inspired the team with her resilience which made them want to use their love for netball to make a difference.
She attended one of the workshops and said: “It was such an amazing session. I left feeling really good about myself and so grateful for being able to attend a course like this.
“It was so nice to be surrounded by other people in the situation as me too.”
The classes provide practical advice on how to navigate the physical and emotional changes caused by cancer treatment.
The charity will be teaming up with England Netball to bring back its annual charity netball tournament.
The aim of this is to not only raise vital funds, but also highlight the struggles and triumphs of those affected by cancer.
The tournament, which takes place March 26, exemplifies how sport and community can lift the spirits and empower those going through difficult times.
