ALMOST three-in-five households in Orford are now considered 'deprived,' new statistics confirm.
The latest data from the Office for National Statistics confirms that 58.3 per cent of homes in Orford are deprived in one or more dimensions.
There are four 'dimensions of deprivation' used by the ONS, which cover health, employment status, housing, and education levels.
According to the latest data, there are 12,000 people living in Orford, spanning 5,200 households - which means that roughly 3,030 homes in the area are technically deprived.
This equates to approximately 6,996 people living in deprivation in Orford.
Despite this, the rate of employment in Orford is higher than the national average, meaning there are more people in work in the area than there are in the rest of England and Wales, on average.
Orford's rate of employment - according to the ONS - is 59.4 per cent of all over-16s in the area; the average for England and Wales is 57 per cent.
That being said, Orford has a higher-than-average proportion of people out of work than the rest of the country.
The rate of unemployment in the area sits at 3.5 per cent of over-16s, whereas the national average is 3.4 per cent.
In terms of the number of people 'economically inactive' - which can mean retired, or it can mean 'unable to work' - 37.1 per cent of the over-16s in Orford are considered inactive.
The national average is 39 per cent of over-16s.
Regarding education levels, one in four Orford residents of working age have no recognised qualifications whatsoever - making the area one of the least educated in Warrington.
Fewer than 20 per cent of Orford residents have a Level 4 qualification or above.
The majority of the workforce in Orford commutes to work, with just 17.5 per cent describing themselves as 'working from home' - which bucks the national trend of more than 30 per cent of workers across the country working from home.
27.7 per cent of households in the area are relying entirely on Warrington's public transport networks, as they have no cars or vans associated with their property.
All data has been taken from the Office for National Statistics' database following the results of the 2021 census.
