POLICE have revealed there is a ‘worrying trend’ developing in an area of Warrington which is leaving elderly residents distressed.
Cheshire Police says it has received a number of reports over the past month of an offender trying door handles of homes.
Among those being targeted is older households, but thankfully the suspect has not managed to gain entry as of yet.
Officers are urging people to keep their doors locked and secure to prevent them being targeted by criminals.
The force’s Latchford West Police team said: “Over the last couple of months, there have been a number of suspicious incidents reported to police of house door handles being tried across Latchford.
“No entry has been gained, however it has caused a lot of distress to the occupants, some of whom have been elderly inside their own houses.
“On each occasion, no one has been seen and they have managed to evade CCTV.
“This is a worrying trend and is a reminder to everyone to ensure their doors are locked and secure even if you are in.”
