PLANS have been submitted to Warrington Borough Council regarding the development taking place at the Omega site in Burtonwood.
The documents proposed to the council's planning committee show that 204 new homes are being planned for the site, on the northeast section of the land.
Developers are planning to build a number of two-storey homes, with one block of three-storey apartments.
The majority of these homes are set to be three-bedroom properties, with one five-bedroom house being planned for the land.
Almost all of the properties are planned to include the provision for charging an electric vehicle on-site.
This is a follow-up application to the original plans for the Omega site, which were submitted in 2019, and granted permission for the land to be used for a number of purposes - including housing, retail, and food and drink outlets.
The plans have been submitted by Bellway Homes, and comprise a mixture of detached and semi-detached properties.
Bellway says: "All house types, in terms of both siting and specification, have been designed in a manner which will ensure a high level of security and minimise the opportunity for potential crimes to be committed."
Adding to this, the developers say: "Dwellings are generally positioned facing each other in order to allow neighbours to easily view their surroundings, creating high levels of natural surveillance."
Of the planned houses, there will be a range of 'affordable' properties, comprising of one, two, and three-bedroom developments.
Commenting on this, Bellway adds: "Due to the mix of detached, and semidetached [properties], it creates a variety of density and a varied street scene of architecture and height."
According to the developers, the site is situated on the former RAF Burtonwood Airfield, the largest military airbase in the UK during World War II.
The Airfield was built in 1940, and became the property of the US Army Air Force in 1942.
Operational Flying ceased in 1959, and was eventually used as storage until its 1993 closure, when the end of the Cold War meant the base was no longer needed.
A decision is due on this planning application by Monday, March 20.
