WARRINGTON'S date has been announced for its annual Cancer Research UK 'Race for Life' events.

The running events take place to raise money for Cancer Research UK, with Race for Life now entering its 30th year.

Having first begun in 1994, more than 10 million people have taken part in the Cancer Research fundraising events, bringing in more than £920million for the charity.

Warrington is set to participate in the nationwide fundraiser on Sunday, June 11, with the events running (pardon the pun) from Victoria Park, in Latchford.

Cancer Research is offering a 50 per cent discount throughout January for anyone who wishes to sign up for the summer events.

These events are open to people of all ages and abilities, regardless of running experience - or lack of it.

Jane Bullock, Cancer Research's spokesperson in the north west, said: "January is the perfect time to commit to getting a little more active.

“We’d love for as many people as possible to join us during our 30th year.

"Race for Life is a powerful way to celebrate and remember loved ones affected by cancer and to raise money for pioneering research.   "

Cancer Research’s Race for Life, in partnership with Standard Life, raises funds for world-class research to help beat 200 types of cancer – including bowel, breast, prostate, lung, testicular, brain cancer, and children’s cancers, as well as leukaemia.

Andy Curran, chief executive of Standard Life, said: “We are extremely proud to have been chosen as the headline sponsor of Race for Life.

“This sponsorship will help encourage participation and raise funds for life-saving research to help beat cancer."

The Race for Life events cover a number of trails, from 3k and 5k runs all the way up to a 10k route.

As well as these, there are 'Pretty Muddy' and 'Pretty Muddy Kids' events which help to raise money for Cancer Research, too.

Race for Life takes part on Sunday, June 11, at Victoria Park - the half-price discount on entry ends on Tuesday, January 31.
