A POPULAR vets clinic in Appleton could be set for an expansion, as new plans have been submitted to the council's planning department.
The plans suggest an increase in the floor space of the veterinary clinic, upping the space from 115 square metres to 155 square metres.
Appleton Hall Veterinary Clinic has been part of the community since it was transformed from a former retail unit in 1996 into the clinic seen today.
Plans were submitted that proposed a rear extension to the premises in December, with a decision due by February this year.
It is expected that the extension would be used to house a new operating theatre for the clinic, as well as kennels, and a cold storage area.
If approved, it is planned that the extension will have no impact on the landscaping around the clinic, and no further parking spaces for the site are being proposed.
The extension is planned to be in keeping with the clinic's current aesthetic, with similar materials being used in the construction of the extension as were used during the installation of the main clinic in the 1990s.
Planning documents say: "There will be no demonstrable harm to neighbouring amenities, visual amenities or highway safety.
"In view of the above, it is considered the scheme satisfies national and local policy and represents a suitable development proposal for the site that addresses all the relevant and material considerations and it is considered that planning permission should be granted."
Plans, if approved by the council, will not have any impact on how customers or staff enter and exit the building, the documents highlight.
The clinic is popular with pet owners, with one social media review saying: "By far the best veterinary practice we've been.
"All staff are friendly and show genuine care towards your pet.
"We won't use anywhere else from now on for our four dogs.
"Very good value for money and [they] respond quickly to any questions you have."
Appleton Hall Veterinary Clinic's application for permission to construct a rear extension for the clinic is currently under consideration by Warrington Borough Council's planning committee, with a decision due by Thursday, February 16, 2023.
