A KEY and busy junction in Warrington town centre is set to close during evenings for eight weeks later today, Sunday.

The traffic light-controlled crossroads shared by Parker Street, Crosfield Street and Sankey Street are set to be upgraded.

The junction is located close to Bank Park, Warrington Town Hall and Warrington Bank Quay railway station.

Warrington Borough Council has confirmed that a temporary prohibition of driving order has been issued for the crossroads.

This will prevent vehicles from using Parker Street from its junction with Sankey Street and Liverpool Road to its junction with Wilson Patten Street, as well as Crosfield Street from its junction with Parker Street to its junction with Bankside.

It also covers Sankey Street from its junction with Parker Street to its junction with Arpley Street, Liverpool Road from its junction with Parker Street to its junction with Factory Lane, Wilson Patten Street from its junction with Parker Street to its junction with Slutchers Lane, as well as Slutchers Lane from its junction with Wilson Patten Street for 100 metres.

The order will come into effect from Sunday, January 15, and it will remain in force for eight weeks between 7pm and 1am.

A diversion has been mapped out, with the alternative route being via Priestley Street, Froghall Lane, Midland Way, Cockhedge Green, Brick Street, Fennel Street, Mersey Street and vice versa.

According to the prohibition order, the restrictions are required for carriageway resurfacing.
