AS Christmas rapidly approaches, police forces across the country and urging residents to remain vigilant.
Break-ins and burglaries spike around the festive period, leaving many people fearing for the security of their homes.
Now, residents across Warrington are warning others to be wary of carol singers around the town who may not be what they seem.
It has been reported on social media that people posing as carol singers are visiting streets across communities such as Birchwood, Padgate, and Orford, and they are attempting to gain knowledge of the security of houses in the area.
One report even alleges that the carol singers attempted to break into a van parked up on the road - the report was posted online with an accompanying video that seems to support the allegation.
Suspicious carol singers have been reported online across Warrington, with one report from Culcheth saying: "When I left my teenager at the door with them while I went for some change, the little lad passed comment about the door locks - be vigilant, people."
Replying to a warning about the singers on Facebook, one Birchwood resident said: "They’ve been at it everywhere - the kids come to the front and distract you while the parents drive round the back of the house looking in gardens, cars, etc."
It is also being reported that some of the singers are covering up doorbell cameras, or even ripping them off the wall in some cases.
One resident of Mee Brow, in Culcheth, said: "They were asking for notes if you have no change, it was a man and a young boy at first.
"Then a lady with two lads and a young girl in a red coat."
A Birchwood resident, Gav, said that the carol singers seemed more interested in 'peering' through his house's windows than actually singing any carols.
Reports on social media of the suspect singers have come from areas across the town, including Padgate, Culcheth, Birchwood, and more.
Cheshire Constabulary urged residents to remain vigilant earlier this year, with Sergeant Mark Spaven saying: "During this time of year we do see several burglaries and we are doing all we can to crack down on those intent on damaging our communities and bring them to justice.
Sgt. Spaven added: "But while we do our part, I would urge residents to also do theirs by ensuring that their homes are secure."
A Cheshire Police spokesperson explained that one official report has been made about carol singers this year, saying: "At 9.10pm on Sunday, December 18, police were made aware of suspicious activity on Havisham Close, Birchwood.
"The caller reported that carol singers had earlier attended their address and were acting suspiciously.
"There were no reports of any items being stolen."
