THIS year saw the end of the Covid-19 lockdowns and businesses were allowed to trade without restrictions.
We have highlighted a dozen Warrington businesses, allowing owners and managers to share the secrets to their success, whether they’re a recent start-up or a long-running family establishment.
From pork and coffee to shoes and baby clothes we’ve even covered outdoor spaces and indoor plants.
Here is a round up of the 12 companies which have been featured as the Warrington Guardian Trader of the Week.
Snoutwood Trotters
Twelve years after buying their first two rare breed pigs, the owners of a Great Sankey pork farm are still making all their own meat products - using tried and tested recipes that continue to a big hit with customers.
Snoutwood Trotters on Laburnum Lane has gone from strength to strength over the past few years with their family-run farm, which is home to the Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs.
Rebecca Scott and Liam Tickle, who both grew up in Warrington, opened their free-range pork shop seven years ago selling bacon, sausages, burgers and other pork products and they also specialise in event catering with hog roasts and pulled pork.
Snoutwood supplies several local businesses in Warrington including Casa Coffee in Penketh, Grill on the Square, San Lorenzo and The Treasury on Palmyra Square and they also supply Mamars at The Old Bank on Bridge Street backing the #supportlocal campaign.

Bamboo Botanicals
Meet Kim Liu – the face behind Bamboo Botanicals in Golden Square.
She’s been selling house plants for two-and-a-half years from a shop in a Runcorn garden centre and now in the town centre.
Kim told us why she decided to set up her own business and how house plants can help boost your mood.

Grappenhall Christmas Trees
There’s nothing quite like the smell of a real tree at Christmas - putting lights and decorations on a fir tree in your living room is guaranteed to stir the festive spirit.
But how about choosing your winter greenery while it’s still growing in a field?
Grappenhall Christmas Trees was selling real trees freshly cut from the forest or still growing in the ground again this year, as it has done for the past 20 years.
Brother and sister team Robert Harrison and Louise Collins run the eco-friendly business on Broad Lane in Grappenhall at a farm owned by John and Andrew Bartholomew.
The farm was originally a market garden owned by Alan and Kath Bartholomew – John and Andrew’s parents – with the brothers planting the first Christmas tree in 1996 and opening Grappenhall Christmas Trees six years later.
Rob and Louise joined the business in 2010 when Andrew moved to New Zealand and John was in Hertfordshire and they now operate under their own licence.

Kingswood Candle Company
When Jason Mitchell started making candles three years ago, he was looking for a way to relax and boost his mental health.
He was working hard as a mental health nurse at Hollins Park in Winwick and struggling with a relationship.
He invested in a start-up kit to make his own candles and Kingswood Candle Company was born.
Jason told us about working seven days a week manning his stall in Golden Square and how pleased he was to be able to meet customers face-to-face following Covid-19 lockdowns.

Pumpkin & Bear Handmade Childrenswear
Pumpkin & Bear Handmade Childrenswear might only be a few weeks old, but the small, family-run business is certainly cutting a path to success.
Jessica Stanton started making clothes for her son Arthur, who was born in April, and the handmade outfits proved to be a big hit with family and friends who came to visit or saw photos on social media.
The former Oakwood Primary School and Sir Thomas Boteler High School pupil decided to launch her own business and the rest, as they say, is history.
Jessica shared with us how she juggles her new business with her family life and how she plans to expand the business making matching outfits for parents.

Daresbury Dairy
Good quality products need good quality ingredients and Daresbury Dairy and Ice Cream Farm has the recipe for success.
With everyone’s favourite frozen treat made using milk from cows on Penkridge Lake Farm, Claire and Matthew Whitlow together with Matthew’s sister Emma have mastered cow farming and ice cream making, running a successful business for the past 11 years.
Claire told us what it’s been like running a business on a busy working farm for the past decade and what special flavours they were selling in the run up to Christmas.

Renovation Station
When you run your own business, having your work seen on television by millions of people around the world must be a career highlight.
Renovation Station customised a special pair of trainers for Queen legend Brian May to wear at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee concert earlier this year and owner Steven White admits “it will be difficult to beat”.
Renovation Station is an offshoot of Moran’s of Warrington, which has been in the town for 80 years, repairing shoes, cutting keys and engraving gifts.
Steven, who has lived in Warrington for 17 years, revealed how the business started from a chance post on social media and how they created footwear fit for a party at Buckingham Palace.

Steven Rogers Woodflooring
Steven Rogers is a third generation hardwood floor fitter with his father and grandfather before him perfecting the trade.
Carrying on the family tradition was destined to be for Steven and ten years ago he started his own business, opening up a warehouse and showroom in 2019.
The bespoke flooring business has taken off in recent years with people wanting classic herringbone flooring in their homes.
Steven shared the secret to making Steven Rogers Woodflooring work, despite not having any business training, and how the company’s success has resulted in a second warehouse and showroom opening near Victoria Park.

Ruby & Harry
Ruby & Harry in Lymm has celebrated its fifth birthday, a milestone that owner Jennifer Grimes is proud to have reached having moved premises in the village, remained in business despite the Covid-19 pandemic and fought back against the current cost-of-living crisis.
The shop, which is named after Jennifer’s two children, is on Bridgewater Street in Lymm and sells unusual gifts and decorations for the home.
There’s even a child-friendly pick ‘n’ mix counter and a party balloon branch of the business.
Jennifer told us why she wanted to open her own business, what customers can expect when they visit her shop and why she is campaigning for people to ‘love local, love Lymm’.

The Little Memory Shop
The Little Memory Shop has not even been in business a year and owner Kim Carvell is taking orders from all over the country.
What started out as a wish to make something practical out of her daughter’s outgrown baby clothes soon turned into a full time job.
The Chapelford mum-of-two makes blankets and cushions using children’s clothes that no longer fit but parents don’t want to part with.
Kim shared how emotional it can be when families see the finished products for the first time and how her latest TikTok video went viral.

Burtonwood Coffee Company
What happens when your love of freshly roasted coffee turns into a successful small business?
You look to expand the growing business and move from your home in Burtonwood into a dedicated unit, where you can offer roastery tours and serve hot drinks.
Ellis Roberts and Toni Molyneux started Burtonwood Coffee Company almost two years ago when the world was in the midst of a global pandemic.
Born from their own love of coffee, the couple wanted to share the passion for freshly roasted coffee with people in the local community.
Ellis and Toni told us how they turned a hobby into a business and what their plans are for an even better 2023.

Rowswood Outdoor Living Ltd
Rowswood Outdoor Living has only been in business for a few months but the three men at the top are already carving out a name for themselves.
Joining forces with the already successful Rowswood Timber, the new business provides outdoor products for patios and outdoor spaces, which enables them to offer customers and clients the complete outdoor living package.
Jake Ditchfield revealed why he opened the business with fellow owners and directors Stuart Tudor and Scott Brierley and what the new year holds for the fledgling company.
