TOWN centre bars and venues are clubbing together in a bid to try and build Boxing Day back to ‘what it was’ this Christmas.

Those involved in Warrington’s hospitality industry are re-introducing the popular fancy dress night that the town was known for many years ago – when December 26 was one of the busiest nights of the year for Warrington’s nighttime economy.

PJs manager Jenny Keepe told the Warrington Guardian how at a monthly pubwatch meeting, local bars, police, and the council agreed it would be a fun idea for venues to work together to host the fancy dress party for people in Warrington.

Jenny, whose dad Paul Keepe used to own Showbar, said: “We would love to keep the people of Warrington in their own town and to not find the need to travel out of the area on boxing night for this whole-of-town themed night.”

There is no theme for the evening, just fancy dress. Although some bars will be choosing their own theme – for example, PJs will be hosting a pyjama party.

Not only does the fancy dress party night aim to support local businesses but Jenny also believes it will bring the town closer together.

She said: “Warrington's nighttime economy has lots to offer these days.

“Many people may be once-a-year partygoers and may not have seen what Warrington has to offer, especially after covid.

“And nothing brings the town closer together than a big fancy dress party and we really hope the customers will join us on this.

“I’ll have my Camera ready!”

As well as supporting pubs, bars, and clubs, it is hoped the fancy dress-themed night will support the whole hospitality industry in Warrington – including restaurants, takeaways, and taxis.

“Let's keep it local,” Jenny said.

“We appreciate all our regulars but looking forward to seeing lots of new faces too in the years to come.”

Fancy dress will not be compulsory on the night.
