A WARRINGTON dad is on the run from police after abducting his son.
The man, who cannot be named due to court orders, is officially wanted for questioning by police on child abduction charges.
Following an ongoing custody battle, the Warrington resident removed his son from the country against the mother's wishes on November 12.
The country in question does not have an extradition treaty with the United Kingdom.
A court order regarding custody was in place specifically stating the child could not be removed from the country without the express consent of both parents and the court, of which none was given.
While, until 30 days had passed this would be a custody issue, now the 30 days have expired the police have officially confirmed the father of the child is wanted for child abduction.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "On Monday, November, 14 police received reports that a child had been taken out of the country by their father without permission from their mother.
"Following the reports officers have engaged closely with both parents, but despite their best efforts the child has not yet been returned to the UK.
"Therefore, the father of the child has now been circulated as wanted for child abduction on the national police database.
"Due to court restrictions currently in place we are unable to name the child or their father at this time.
"However, all the appropriate authorities have been made aware and officers are continuing to do all they can to return the child to the UK."
MP for Warrington North Charlotte Nichols has said "This is a very sad and difficult situation.
"I am making representations to the Foreign Office to do all they can, although I recognise that we do not have an extradition treaty with the country in question.
"I hope that this can be resolved as quickly as possible to bring the child back to his mother.”
