MUSICAL acts from across Warrington, Runcorn, and Widnes were honoured last week in the inaugural Warrington Music Awards.
Attended by almost 300 people last Thursday, the night saw Warrington-born band Crawlers being crowned Band of the Year.
This was a day before their intimate gig in Warrington and comes prior to their upcoming tour of the US in February.
Song of the year and Music Video of the year went to ‘Hometown’ by The K’s, a band from Earlestown in St Helens.
Warrington’s Parr Hall won venue of the year.
Chris Persoglio, Venue and Events Manager at Parr Hall, said: “We’re delighted to be the [WAM] Music Venue of the Year. It’s an incredible feeling and it means so much to us to still be at the heart of the community after 127 years.
There is really nothing else like it when we have a sell-out gig. There is so much vibrancy and energy in the room.”
The idea of the awards was to “celebrate the ‘amazing talent Warrington, Widnes and Runcorn has to offer’ and prevent the region being overlooked by the huge music cities of Manchester and Liverpool that the area sits between.”
The night saw live music by local artists Vicky Williams, Christy Bellis and Paul Nixon, as well as Wigan band ‘Stanleys’ who will be appearing at Neighbourhood Weekender in 2023.
Lee Harman, [WAM] Editor said: "I'd like to thank all the artists involved, be those who performed, attended on the night or otherwise engaged in a fantastic event, where the Warrington, Widnes & Runcorn music scene were put front and center.”
