THE cold weather is wreaking havoc with the sporting schedule this weekend.

With snow and sub-zero temperatures putting the freeze on large parts of the country, the majority of fixtures are off.

Warrington Town are on their way home without a ball being kicked.

They are making their longest away trip of the season – a 350-mile round trip to Northumberland to take on Morpeth Town.

The Highwaymen play on an artificial 4G playing surface and although Morpeth chiefs confirmed this morning that the Northern Premier League clash will go ahead, Town announced at 2.15pm that the match referee had called the game off due to a frozen pitch.

Warrington Rylands’ trip to Gainsborough Trinity is also OFF.

This morning's pitch inspection confirmed the Northolme ground pitch is frozen and not safe for the players.

Closer to home, the Warrington Junior Football League announced yesterday that all of its scheduled fixtures for this weekend have been called off.

In the Cheshire Football League, these games involving Warrington teams are all OFF: Greenalls v Broadheath, Egerton v Daten, Moore United v Lymm Rovers.

RUGBY UNION:

Lymm's firsts and seconds were both due to host Sandbach, while the Eagles' trip to Winnington Park is also postponed.

Warrington are due to be at home to Liverpool St Helens in a top-of-the-table clash at 2.15pm. Word is awaited as to whether the game is on or off.
