THE risk of homes in Warrington flooding has risen faster than most areas in the UK.
This is according to new research which has revealed the top 10 UK areas where the risk of flooding has increased the most.
Warrington features in eighth place national, demonstrating a 1.74 per cent increase in flood risk since 2018.
Experts at Utility Bidder have carried out research to reveal the UK areas most at risk of flooding and the areas where the risk of flooding has increased the most.
The number of properties in Warrington with a flood risk of one per cent or higher has increased from 5,962 in 2018 to 6,066 in 2020.
Of the top 10 UK areas where the risk of flooding has increased the most, six are located in the north west of England.
James Longely, managing director at Utility Bidder, said: “In England, one in five properties are at risk of flooding.
“This goes to show the importance of being prepared for a flood and protecting your property as much as possible.
“There are a number of steps homeowners can take if a flood alert has been issued, which will help reduce the damage caused to the property and the contents within it.
“Sadly, there is only so much homeowners can do to protect their properties from flooding, so it is crucial we all know what to do after a flood has occurred.
“To begin with, it is important to ring your insurance company as well as the council to make them aware of what has happened.
“If the flooding is severe and water levels are high, you must stay in a high place until help arrives.”
