A MURDER investigation is under way after a Warrington man was found dead in a luxury apartment in Dubai.

The body of Jerrerd Steven David Winstanley was found at an apartment in the Damac Hills area of the United Arab Emirates city on Thursday, September 29.

A medical examiner in Dubai concluded that Mr Winstanley, of Latchford, died of ‘multiple injuries,’ and his body was then repatriated to the UK.

A Home Office pathologist confirmed the Dubai medical examiner’s conclusion after a post-mortem examination at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

Mr Winstanley was formally identified from his passport while still in Dubai.

An inquest into the death was opened this week at Warrington Coroners’ Court, which is standard procedure for a British citizen who dies abroad, police confirmed.

Claire Welch, area coroner for Cheshire, officially opened the inquest and then adjourned the proceedings until the outcome of the Dubai Police murder investigation is known.

A full inquest was scheduled to take place in August next year.

The Warrington Guardian contacted Dubai Police for a comment regarding the status of the investigation.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “We are aware of the death of Mr Winstanley and our family liaison officers are currently providing support to his family in the UK.

“In respect of any criminal investigation into his death, this will be conducted by the Dubai authorities.”
