A FORMER Cheshire Police officer accused of abusing his position for a sexual purpose is set to appear in court.
Following an Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation, PC Jordan Masterson has been charged with misconduct in public office.
In a statement released today, the IOPC said he is accused of abusing his position for a sexual purpose.
The IOPC began a criminal investigation on January 4 this year following a referral from Cheshire Police in December 2021.
Prior to the referral, Masterson had been arrested by the force and suspended later the same day.
The IOPC concluded its investigation in April this year and referred a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
The CPS has today, Thursday, authorised a charge of misconduct in public office against the 26-year-old.
He is set to make a first appearance at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, December 21.
Rosemary Ainslie, head of the CPS’ Special Crime Division, said: “Following a review of the evidence after an investigation by the IOPC, former Cheshire Constabulary officer Jordan Masterson, 26, has been charged with misconduct in public office.
“He is accused of abusing his position for a sexual purpose.
“The CPS reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active, and that he has the right to a fair trial.
“It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice proceedings.”
A spokesman for Cheshire Police added: "We are aware of the case involving former Cheshire Police officer Jordan Masterson, who resigned from the force in June 2022.
"The investigation has been led by the IOPC, and due to the ongoing legal proceedings it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."
