WARRINGTON’S award-winning Chinese restaurant has reached a milestone of 10 years since it first opened its doors in the Cultural Quarter.
The eatery’s owner is hoping to see all its regular faces come in throughout the month to eat some of their favourite dishes and celebrate with them.
Mr Lau’s has been a staple favourite within the community since it opened on November 5, 2012.
Since then, it has won various awards for its great food and vibrant atmosphere, including the Warrington Guardian Favourite Restaurant award in 2018.
Owner, Pamela Lau said there is no secret to its significant success, other than ‘hard work’ and a ‘great’ team of supporters that surround her.
“I have not achieved the success by myself; I have a great support system behind me,” she said.
“My staff work very hard in delivering the food and service to the high standard that we are known for.”
While the restaurant is known for throwing an exceptional celebratory bash, Pamela explained that Mr Lau’s will go for a more ‘low key approach’ to celebrate the milestone.
“Christmas and New Year are fast approaching, and I am looking forward to celebrating with everyone throughout the festive period,” she explained.
Pamela first started venturing into the food industry back in 2007 when she opened Chinese takeaway Yummy Yum’s on Warrington Road in Penketh.
“I decided after opening the takeaway, with my next food project I wanted to be able to see my customers,” she explained.
“We have seen many changes in the last 10 years since opening. We were one of the first establishments in the cultural quarter.
“Over the years we have seen it develop into a destination that offers a great variety of food, drink and entertainment.”
One of the restaurant’s stand out features is its dim sum menu – a unique culinary experience that was first brought to Warrington by Mr Lau’s and is crafted by their in-house specially trained ‘dim sum master’.
“At first, people perceived dim sum as just steamed dumplings; but now people realise that dim sum is about the dining experience,” Pamela continued.
“It is to share and enjoy different tastes and textures.
“The best-selling dim sum is char siu bao – hot fluffy steamed buns filled with sweet roast pork.”
Pamela also referred to the influx of Hong Kongers that have recently moved into the area, many of whom have become fans of the restaurants delicious dim sum menu.
Another one-of-a-kind feature is what Pamela refers to as the ‘chefs table’.
Situated right in front of the open kitchen, it is now a common favourite spot for regulars who enjoy watching the chefs in action and feeling the heat of the roaring flames.
The owner expressed extreme pride in her business, which also recently came top three in England at the prestigious Golden Chopsticks Awards – a ceremony which recognises the best of east and south Asian cuisine.
“I am proud of everything we have achieved at Mr Lau’s,” Pamela said.
“It has been an exciting journey for me, though I feel the word grateful is more suited than proud.
“I am very grateful for the support I receive from my customers; I have many loyal customers who have supported Mr Lau’s since opening the doors.
“The feeling of knowing that customers choose us to celebrate their special occasions, knowing that people talk about Mr Lau’s and recommend the restaurant, is a wonderful feeling.”
