PARKING spaces have been blocked off in a busy village car park.

The bays in The Forge Car Park in Stockton Heath are closed to allow for work to be carried out.

Electric vehicle (EV) charging provider Be.EV has partnered with Warrington Borough Council to boost Warrington’s rapid charging provision.

BeEV started installing electric charging points yesterday, Monday, and will be carrying out work until December 9.

The work includes turning seven parking bays into four 50kw rapid charger bays and two bays for fast chargers.

The other spaces will be available again after work is complete.

Works to connect the charging points to the electricity supply will then begin in January.

Since declaring a climate emergency in 2019, WBC has been investing in an extensive network of ‘fast’ chargers.

But it is lacking the rapid and ultra-rapid charger coverage needed to meet on-the-go charging needs and increased EV uptake.

The partnership with Be.EV aims to fix this, bringing more public rapid charging opportunities to the area and connecting Warrington to the largest public EV charging network in the region.

When using a rapid charger, drivers can typically charge their EV to 80 per cent in 20 minutes to an hour, compared to four to six hours on a 7kW fast charger.

This means a rapid charger can charge more cars in a day and becomes free again more quickly for the next person – a ‘key factor’ in ensuring a smooth and convenient charging experience.
