YOU told us what high street shops you are missing the most ahead of Christmas 2022.

With hundreds of your sharing your most-missed shops, there were some clear favourites.

Here’s what you said:

Debenhams

Golden Square’s Debenhams closed for good in May 2021.

The retail giant collapsed at the end of 2020 but Warrington's 'anchor' department store was open until May 12, 2021, for final stock to be sold off.

Many people still miss the store.

“For going out outfits, Debenhams... I rarely go into the Golden Square nowadays,” said one reader.

A second added: “Debenhams. Golden Square really needs a department store back.”

Warrington Guardian:

Marks and Spencer

The Golden Square branch of Marks and Spencer closed back in 2017.

The company left the town centre as part of its ‘national rationalisation’ and ‘nationwide strategic restructure’.

At the time, M&S’ regional manager said the decision to leave was not taken lightly.

But plenty of Warrington shoppers miss the store in the town centre – especially in the runup to Christmas.

Warrington Guardian:

Woolworths

Woolworths has been closed for 13 years now.

But it doesn’t mean it has been forgotten about, especially in Warrington.

Selling everything from homeware to toys to sweet treats – it was a great place to look for a Christmas present.

One reader said: “Woolworths. You could get just about everything there.”

Another said: “Woolworths. I got a lot from there and in the January sales.”

Warrington Guardian:

C&A

We lost the Golden Square’s C&A store more than two decades ago.

Back in June 2000, every branch across the country shut.

The business was part of the British High Street for more than 75 years.

And it’s presence is still missed.

One shopper said: “C&A, they always had good winter clothes.”

Toys ‘R’ Us

It has been more than four years since the popular toy shop closed.

The store was Christmas present heaven for children.

But Toys ‘R’ Us shut all of its 100 UK stores back in 2018 – including the one in Warrington.

One reader told the Warrington Guardian: “Toys R Us. Absolute no contest.”

BHS

Shutters came down on BHS in the Golden Square more than eight years ago.

It closed for good in July 2016.

It was a popular spot for Christmas shopping in the town.

“BHS. Overnight Christmas shop layout were the best shifts ever!” said one reader.

Another said: “BHS – great for Christmas gifts.”
