A LATCHFORD mum threatened to blow up and burn her neighbour’s house down.

Sian Hughes also hurled vile abuse at the victim – leaving her feeling uncomfortable in her own home and constantly ‘on edge’.

The 31-year-old, of Grammar School Road, appeared before Warrington Magistrates’ Court last Thursday after pleading guilty to threats to damage/destroy property.

Prosecuting, Tom McLoughlin told the court how just before 1am on October 6, the victim became aware of Hughes who was shouting outside of her home.

Mr McLoughlin said how Hughes was shouting threats at her – telling her she was going to burn her house down and blow it up.

The court heard how the mum-of-four also said: “If you keep calling the police, see what happens.”

This was because the neighbour had called the police following a number of ‘domestic incidents’ between Hughes and her partner next door.

Mr McLoughlin told the court how Hughes’ behaviour has impacted the victim’s mental health and that she is ‘constantly on edge’ of the defendant ‘doing something’ to her.

Hughes has a ‘limited number’ of previous convictions.

Defending, Ian Waites said: “Having met her on two occasions, it is quite apparent to me this is someone who has waited until her 30s till she has come before the court.

“She is not someone who sets fire to things and does those kinds of things.

“But it is a verbal response to neighbours who have called the police to domestic incidents

“We use words sometimes that we do not mean literally.

“She was saying all sorts of things to try and upset the neighbour.”

Mr Waites said his client has mental health problems and is alcohol-dependent.

Concluding, chair of the magistrates' bench Alan Davies said: “We have listened carefully to what has been said.

“We accept that you are a person of limited previous convictions.

“But this matter was a serious matter and your behaviour caused a serious effect on your victim.”

Hughes received a community order in which she must complete up to 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

She must also pay a £120 fine, £120 in court costs and a £114 surcharge.
