THREE young runners recorded their fastest times at the Sheffield Indoor Open, capping a successful meet and a busy weekend for Warrington Athletics Club.

In the under 13s 60 metres, Leah Poole finished fifth and recorded a personal best 9.42secs.

This was quickly followed by Laila Betteley in the other under 13s 60m race who also finished fifth and registered a pb 10.21secs.

But it did not end there for Betteley, who competed in the 600m and clocked another best of 2mins 20 secs while finishing fourth.

Eva Rees won her under 17s 150m race with a personal best 23.53secs, while Jake Sands, competing in his first competition, gave an impressive performance in the shot putt, finishing sixth with an 8.07m throw.

Over at the Meerbrook 15k, Louise Blizzard won a team silver medal while representing Cheshire in an inter-county match.

She ran an excellent race over a tough course, placing 67th overall.

Her time of 1hr 12mins 13secs was enough for 20th within the women’s category and fourth in the over 45s age group.

The club was also represented at the Preston 10 miles road race, which also doubled up as the Northern Road Race Championships and Fire Service Championship.

Retired fireman David Gill posted 64mins 14secs to finish 51st overall but won the Northern title in the over 65s age group. He crossed the line second in the Fire Service Championships.
