POTENTIAL changes to bin collection schedules in Warrington over Christmas have now been revealed.
Warrington Borough Council has issued its bin collection and recycling update for the festive period.
Despite what looks like minimum disruption due to the annual public holidays, the council has warned residents that usual bin collection day may change over the period.
It has also issued opening times for tips in the town.
Here is the bin collection update issued by the council:
- Friday, December 23 – no change
- Saturday, December 24 (Christmas Eve) – no bin collections (no change)
- Sunday, December 25 (Christmas Day) – no bin collections (no change)
- Monday, December 26 (Boxing Day) – no bin collections (bank holiday)
- Tuesday, December 27 – no change
- Wednesday, December 28 – no change
- Thursday, December 29 – no change
- Friday, December 30 – no change
This is the latest the schedule goes, with a New Year collection update expected in due course.
Residents are reminded that Christmas cards, cardboard packaging and foil can go in your blue recycling bin, as well as aluminium cans and glass bottles.
Christmas trees can be recycled via St Rocco’s tree collection for a small donation, or you can take trees, wreaths and plants to community recycling centres
Some wrapping paper cannot be recycled due to the mix of materials, and sticky tape can cause trouble for recycling plants.
Make sure you remove any tape and do the scrunch test – if the paper springs back, it cannot be recycled.
Residents are also asked not to put batteries in your bins as they may cause a fire. You can dispose of batteries at your local recycling bank or LiveWire library, while lots of supermarkets also have battery recycling bins.
Christmas tree lights can be taken to some community recycling centres that accept small electrical items, however baubles and tinsel cannot be recycled.
Re-use them for as long as you can, but if their time has come, put them in your normal household waste.
Local community recycling centres, or tips, will still be open through December.
Gatewarth is open from 8am to 6pm throughout the year, with Woolston opening from 10am to 4pm on weekdays, as well as 8am to 6pm weekends.
Stockton Heath Community Recycling Centre is open between 10am and 4pm on weekdays, as well as from 8am to 4pm on weekends.
However, all community recycling centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
