THE person who died on the railway after being hit by a train near Warrington was an 18-year-old man.
British Transport Police confirmed the heartbreaking news in an update this afternoon, Thursday.
The tragic incident itself happened at around 6.30pm on Tuesday evening on the railway in Widnes.
As a result, the tracks were blocked between Warrington Central and Liverpool South Parkway train stations while Network Rail and emergency services were in attendance.
In an update, a spokesman for British Transport Police said: “We were called to the railway line in Widnes just before 6.30pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, but the person, an 18-year-old man, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”
The spokesman said yesterday that officers were working to establish the full circumstances behind the death.
It has now been confirmed however that the incident is not being treated as suspicious, with a file to be prepared for the coroner.
