NEW photos taken from the top of one of the area’s tallest buildings show spectacular views of Warrington.
For many decades, Fiddler’s Ferry power station in Cuerdley has been a landmark on the landscape, visible for many miles around.
But the iconic cooling towers are set to be demolished next year to make way for housing and new industrial usage.
Before that happened, we sent photographer Dave Gillespie to the top of the stack – the tallest structure at the site which even towers over the cooling towers.
Over the coming days and weeks, we will bring you some of the stunning shots he was able to get, showing the area we live from a different vantage.
The first instalment focuses on Warrington, and instantly noticeable is the vast number of homes in the town.
The start of the town centre is marked by the Unilever site, which itself is soon to be demolished after operations ended.
Where this business has closed however, many new and huge industrial warehouses can be seen at Omega, on land which if viewed decades ago would show the former RAF Burtonwood airbase.
Despite these developments, large swathes of green space can be seen, as well as the natural course of the River Mersey.
Other noticeable landmarks include the Halliwell Jones Stadium and St Elphin’s Church.
