RESIDENTS who place traffic cones outside their home to prevent people from parking there have been warned by police.

It comes after officers received reports of cones being used on streets in Stockton Heath by households to reserve parking.

Cheshire Police says it is an offence to do so, as it is deemed to be obstructing the highway without permission from the council.

Officers say they are looking into the issue to address concerns regarding parking going forwards.

The force’s Stockton Heath Police team said: “It has been brought to our attention that there has been an increase in residents using traffic cones and other items to prevent or reserve parking outside of their property.

“Just a reminder that under the Highways Act 1980 it is an offence to obstruct the highway without permission from the local highway authority.

“We understood that nuisance and inconsiderate parking is a big issue to residents on some specific streets in Stockton Heath.

“We would like to work with the local authority and residents to address these issues moving forward.”
