WHITE Lace Bakery is the place to go for Warrington’s best desserts, after the town centre venue scooped one of our Best of 2022 awards.
The busy shop is now serving something a bit more savoury for hungry customers to enjoy at lunchtime.
With hot and cold sandwiches, wraps and paninis on the menu, it’s easy to see why there’s a queue out the door of the Golden Square venue six days a week.
Lindsay Albon and her husband Graham opened the small family-run business in Golden Square just over two years ago having had a stall on the temporary Warrington Market from 2018.
Together with eldest daughter Lauren Paget and head baker Nathan Ramsay, the couple have made such a success of the town centre venue that they opened another shop in Culcheth in August.
They were named Warrington’s Best Dessert in our Best of 2022 competition earlier this year thanks to their mouth-watering treats.
There are cupcakes and cookie dough creations, brownies and blondies, milkshakes and ice creams available each day but you have to be quick – they regularly sell out of their delicious desserts.
Having mastered the sweet side of baking, White Lace Bakery now sells a whole host of savoury snacks to enjoy each lunchtime.
The sweet chilli chicken with halloumi on a hot wrap is a best seller as are the triple decker sandwiches – chicken or avocado.
The special hot sandwich containing roast chicken, stuffing and pigs in blankets as well as roast potatoes and gravy was popular with visitors and could be making a reappearance closer to Christmas.
All the sandwiches, wraps and paninis are made fresh to order between 10.30am and 3pm Monday to Saturday and they also offer a delivery service if you want your lunch delivered straight to your door or your desk at work.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the family delivered hundreds of boxes of cakes each week to homes and businesses all over Warrington including the hospital and local police stations.
Lindsay said: “This delivery service was the making of the business and we were delivering hundreds of boxes of cakes each week as well as afternoon tea treats.
“We have customers who come in at the same time each week and order the same things – they’re very loyal.
“It’s wonderful to think that so many people enjoy what we do.”
Lindsay, who is 40, was made redundant from her high-pressure job in 2016 and decided to make wedding cakes, teaching herself with online videos and tips.
Before Covid-19, she was making 90 wedding cakes a year and made her final ‘big day’ cake in September deciding to focus on the cakes sold in the shop and other special occasion cakes.
As well as the sandwiches and other savoury lunchtime options and all the desserts available each day, White Lace Bakery also has a stall in the Warrington Christmas Market selling hot desserts - churros, cookie dough and American style pancakes.
