THERE is anger at the closure of a popular store in Penketh.
The McColl's in Penketh is one of three in Warrington to be closed by Morrisons.
Convenience stores on Market Gate in the town centre, on Concord Place in Orford, and on Warrington Road in Penketh were earmarked for closure earlier this month.
This comes after Morrisons revealed proposals to shut more than 132 loss-making McColl’s stores – a convenience chain it bought earlier this year.
Now residents have reacted angrily to the decision.
Alan Thomas, from Great Sankey, said: "I am angry and disappointed to see the closure of the McColl's store on Warrington Road, Penketh.
"This has been an important community resource for many years. To see it closed on the whim of an American finance company, thereby throwing the staff out of work only weeks before Christmas and during a deepening cost-of-living crisis, is shameful.
"Second, I am very grateful to those same staff, who kept us going through the lockdowns, despite risking their own well-being.
"Always helpful, always cheerful, always friendly, always there. Thank you so much.
"Sadly another victory for those who know the price of everything and the value of nothing."
Sincerely Alan Thomas
