MORE than 30 knives have been surrendered to police in Warrington as part of an initiative to clamp down on knife crime.
Cheshire Police teamed up with Sale Sharks a bid to take knives off the streets and educate young people about the dangers of carrying a knife.
The joint initiative kicked off this week as officers from Cheshire Police – together with other forces throughout the country – support the anti-knife crime campaign ‘Operation Sceptre’.
The national week of action ran from Monday, November 14 until Sunday, November 20.
Warrington Police posted on social media: “PCSOs who cover Warrington West have been out on the beat today as part of Operation Sceptre.
“Thirty-four knives have been recovered and will now be safely destroyed.
“A big thanks to everyone who came down to our knife surrender bin and to those who contacted us with requests to collect unwanted knives.
“We will continue to support the national campaign to take knives off the streets and educate people about the risks of carrying bladed weapons.”
